so long...farewell...ah-veedersin(?) adieu!

i don't know German

so...the reason why it has taken me so long to update is because i have been "trying" to create a new blog.  i got sort of busy though.  i distinctly remember josh saying in April..."this summer is going to be great...we have, like, nothing to do..."  although great it has been, unbusy it has been not.  well, anyways, my new blog is done.  you can now find me on blogspot. (joshmichele.blogspot.com) i just like it better and that is pretty much the reason I'm moving.  since i literally spent HOURS today finishing it, there is not a new post on that site either...sorry for the suspense!  i will try and update this week when i get the chance.

side note:  for anyone who got warm fuzzies with my title reference...GR's civic theater will be doing a production of The Sound of Music this Christmas...i cannot wait!  Aaaand, even better news...they'll be performing Grease in Feb 08!!!  Josh and I seriously sat around trying to decide how we could possibly audition...  now that would be funny (but, come on, how fun would it be?!)   ok...one more civic theater reference.  Guess what they are doing next summer?!?  High School Musical!!  (i know, i'm 25)  I can't help it...i love that stuff.  We got a good laugh when we realized Josh could, in fact, try out for that musical - because he has braces ... again.  heehee!

as long as i'm talking about musicals, it seems only fair that i mention that we saw Hairspray last night...finally!  oh my gosh...go see that movie, now.  fabulous.  however, we decided afterwards, that we both liked the broadway musical better...but this was an excellent second!

new neighbor

So...I'm sitting at our dining room table the other morning eating breakfast when I get this feeling of "I'm being watched."  We have a big picture window right in our dining room that looks onto our neighbor's house...which has been vacant for quite some time.  The windows on their house all have blinds that are always closed-so I figured my "feeling" was just me being paranoid.  Nonetheless, my creepy feeling wouldn't go away.  I took a closer look over there and noticed one of the blinds were popped up...and my heart started to beat really fast...how did one blind get moved up just enough to peek out?!  aahh!! Then the blind started moving and someone peeked out!!!  I flipped out.  Just before I screamed for Josh, I realized that something looked strangely familiar about that face peeking at me through the blind.  Yup, that's right, it was for sure a squirrel!  Just as I realized what I was looking at, it came out and just sort of hung out between the blinds...starring at me...then I screamed for Josh.  We stood there watching him, as he longingly looked out the window at the outside world.  We're pretty sure he got in there somehow and doesn't know how to get out.  That's not gonna be fun for whoever moves in there.  I wonder what else is living in there... eew.

This weekend was great.  My family came to visit and my dad ran with me and Wendy in the Reed's Lake Run.  I am so happy with my time...25:59...I kinda shocked myself.  Thanks to my dad - he gave me a fast pace to keep :)  and it was my birthday...I was spoiled by my whole family all weekend which included some pink patent-leather pumps, an ice tea maker and a pedicure...so girly, I love it...and just what I needed!  :)

We also got word that our new couch has arrived!  finally... we are going to pick it up tomorrow.  I will post pictures soon :)
hope our new neighbor isn't too jealous of our new couch...wouldn't want him chewing a way into here to snuggle up on it.

cheers...

traveling reminds me why I don't want to live in West Michigan forever.

I like this city, don't get me wrong.  Eastowne is grreat.  The weather is perfect in the summer...we're close to the beach...and its beautiful.  We have awesome friends and jobs here too.  All that to say, I don't want to live here forever.  I am reminded that the world is a vast place full of new people to meet, cultures to be immersed in, languages to try and learn, food to try, music to hear, history to experience, sites to see...and lets face it...fashion to die for.

I LOVE to travel.  It's the one thing I could go broke doing. so... Boston was great.

we kept saying that we felt like we sort of stepped into Europe.  We stayed minutes from downtown in the Boston Hotel Buckminster - this really great old-fashioned hotel (one of the first built in the city.)  Food is important...the best thing I ate was actually for breakfast one morning... lemon ricotta stuffed french toast with fresh blueberry topping... oh my gosh good!!  It will be one of my life goals to try and recreate that recipe. We did a lot of the touristy stuff...walked the freedom trail, hung out in Boston Commons, read books in the Public Gardens, ate the most fabulous Italian food in the North End (thanks for the suggestion Lori), shopped Newbury Street (Boston's 5th Avenue), AND of course, we visited Harvard.  Josh has always had this on his list of potential grad schools, so we jumped at the chance to check it out.  It's definitely an awesome school.  We were a bit surprised...we just expected everyone to look really collegiate and professional...I'll say that visit blew that stereotype right out of the water.  Anyways, while we were there, finals were going on, and they were setting up for their graduation ceremony that weekend.  It looked like they were setting up for a heeuge concert... must be a pretty big deal I guess... So, it wouldn't be us if we didn't take pictures of ourselves in the "aha! I'm a genious" Harvard fashion...like ya do...

Here's a few more of our trip...

I had to walk by Fenway Park everyday to get to the college my conference was at...

funny story...we've been walking the freedom trail all day...it's basically a little path made of red bricks that winds all through Boston and takes you to all the famous stops along the way...its kindof a maze...its long...our feet are absolutely killing us...we are dead.  One of our last stops was to find Paul Revere's house.  Could not find it!  We walked and walked and looked and looked...we kept saying, its got to be right around here...we look at our map...we look around...we walk...we look at our map...we look around...we turn around....you get the picture.  Finally, I stop a few feet behind Josh and I say in a 'i am finished with this' voice..."It's GOT to be RIGHT here!!"  Josh turns around and asks me "do you want me to just ask someone where it is?"  I look at him and start to DIE laughing.  I took the picture below in the EXACT spots we were each standing in at the moment... you should shake your head at us right now...

The Public Gardens which are right across from Boston Commons...gorgeous...and a great place to people watch...

Over all, Bahston is an awesome city.  It is a must visit (or live in) city ...in my humble opinion.  You will love it.

She said "I think I'll go to Boston..."

4 nights, 5 days in Boston...here I come!  My work is sending me to a conference in Boston, and Josh decided to tag along with me...because why not?  The conference is on the Ages and Stages questionnaire which is the screening tool that I use in my program...and the creators of the questionnaire are the speakers...exciting!  I have also always wanted to go to Boston and I'm pumped that Josh was able to get a cheap flight to come with me.  It will sort of be a mini vacation...which Josh needs.
Last night was the volunteer appreciation night for Mars Hill students.  They threw a 50's sock hop at a bowling alley.  We all dressed up ...had burgers and fries and floats...bowled...and danced to a 50's band.  It was a lot of fun.  I am truly the saddest bowler EVER.  I bowled a 48 and a 17 ah-thankyou.  My team would cheer for me when I knocked 1 pin down like I just got a strike...so supportive I love it.
ok, and whats an update of mine without pictures?  here we go...

josh and my brother-in-law Jamie...(he gets best dressed i think!!!)

me and wendy

The Strikers (our swell bowling team...Alan wins 2nd best dressed)

My mom turned 50 last week...I made her this shirt...I only hope I look as gorgeous as she does when I'm 50.  I also redid ALL of my mom's old photo albums...oh my goodness she was so happy...

me and mom

And lastly...I had to include this...the one and only Ben Folds in action.

It was an incredible concert.  Love that guy!

Ok I must go...because...we are leaving in a half hour to go to
Deeeeeeeeeeeetroit Basketball!  Oh yes its true...front row seats for the playoffs against the bulls!  look for us on TV!

Dining Out For Life

You can join the fight against HIV/AIDS just by eating breakfast, lunch or dinner out on April 26 (tommorrow!) at various Grand Rapids restaurants.  A portion of your bill will be donated to HIV/AIDS Services Inc., a local non-profit organization who works to fight this pandemic here in Kent County.  Please visit www.diningoutforlife.com to get a listing of the different participating restaurants in Grand Rapids.  You can also visit www.hasinc.org to get more information on HIV/AIDS Services.  I will be working the dinner shift at Bobby J's (downtown on Jefferson) handing out raffle tickets and telling people about DOFL...hope to see you there!
